On Soap and Coffee

On Soap and Coffee

This week I have been immersed in editing Love on Film, the sequel to my first novel, Love on Paper. I am so crazy about these two books, and so excited to put them out into the world. The last few months have been super intense as I've been revising Love on Film and making sure it's just right for publication. Sunday was the deadline, and I worked myself right through the weekend to ensure I got it done. It went well, thanks to Thai takeout and copious cups of coffee, with the exception of one coffee disaster.

This is my favorite get-stuff-done mug, featuring my favorite woman who gets it done, Dolly Parton. I pulled it out on Sunday, ready to slay tasks and meet my 5PM deadline. As an extra treat, I spiced up my coffee with some cinnamon, star anise, cayenne, and honey. This is a reliable mix for me, but at the last minute, I got carried away and put in some nutmeg. From the first sip, I realized this was a mistake. Not because nutmeg isn't tasty, but because nutmeg mixed in with the other spices made my coffee taste EXACTLY like the fragrance of a certain significant soap: Imperial Leather, the English soap used by my English male main character, Sam Quinn.

Sam Quinn

Imperial Leather has such a spicy fragrance. It's super enticing to me, actually, knowing that it's what Sam uses! I order it for my husband now because I like it so much.

Just the same, I don't recommend drinking it! :)

The good news is, I made the deadline. And Love on Film will officially release this Thursday, April 14th. I am so excited to share it with the world - and you!
