Chasing Her Heart is about free-spirited artist Elise, guarded musician Rory, and one semester abroad that changes their worlds for good. It's sweet, swoon-worthy, and set in Ireland, which I will ALWAYS be here for! I asked Allison a few questions so you can get to know her and this great new series of books!
Hey Allison! Tell us a little about yourself!
Hi! I’m a mom of three little ones by day and a writer whenever I can fit in a few minutes of writing time. I love traveling, hate cooking, and one of my greatest goals in life is to get my kids to love hiking as much as I do. When I’m not stuck at my computer, you can usually find me outside playing with my kids or curled up with a good book.
I love this book! What inspired you to write Elise and Rory's story?
I first came up with the idea for Chasing Her Heart during a family trip to Ireland in 2018. At the time, I was working as a travel agent and family travel blogger. My youngest was also on the way, and my two older children were still young enough that they demanded my constant attention. Needless to say, I didn’t think I’d ever have the time to pursue writing a novel. That all changed when COVID hit, and I stepped away from my job and my family stopped traveling. Chasing Her Heart became my coping project, an escape from the hard realities of the pandemic and quarantining with three small children. Two years later, I’m so excited to see it finally out in the world.
The setting and the romance are a great escape! What's your favorite scene in the book?
This question is so hard! There are so many scenes that still make me smile even after dozens of read-throughs. Without giving away any spoilers, I think the last chapter is my favorite. After the struggle and heartache are over, when Rory and Elise finally have their happily ever after. I still read that and feel all the dreamy feels inside.
You write sweet romance, so I know you love to write about love! What other themes do you enjoy exploring through your books?
Family is a recurring theme in my writing. I love writing about the dynamics between different families—how the individual members relate to each other, and how the main characters are shaped by their upbringings. Second chance is another theme I LOVE to write about. There’s so much potential for conflict when a past relationship is involved. I’m also a sucker for forbidden love and opposites attract, which both come into play in the novel I’m currently working on.
I am super excited for that novel, since we've been critiquing it in our group! Readers who love sports-themed romance will adore these two characters. The next book in Allison's Buena Hills series is slated for release in early 2023.
Congratulations, Allison! ♡
