Introducing Blushing Betty!

Introducing Blushing Betty!

Thanks to everyone who voted on my new pink iMac's name! It was fun to see the answers roll in. Although it was a very close race between Poppy and Blushing Betty (Rizzo got many votes as well!) in the end, Blushing Betty edged out the competition. I am super excited. Now that she's got a name, this pretty-in-pink computer feels like part of the family.

Pink Sky inscribed with the words be true to you.

I always think it's funny that the color pink is so divisive. I was reminded of this many times in the past week, because apparently pink has become disgusting to my 7-year-old daughter and a few of her friends. My feeling is that they're trying to be tough to impress a few older kids in the neightborhood. Yesterday a few kids were playing in our yard, and the older ones were discussing how much they hate the color pink. Our youngest visitor, a completely adorable five-year-old girl, crept to my side and whispered, "It's impossible to find a kid in this neighborhood who likes pink these days!" I was proud of her for being unafraid to tell the other kids that pink is her favorite. I hope as they grow, all these neighborhood kids (mine included!) learn to be true to who they are and comfortable with what they love, no matter what anyone thinks.
