Welcome to my office! I am lucky to have a space in our basement that's all my own. Although it's half-underground, it has a great big window, so it's full of light. The bookshelves were here when we bought the house and they were the #1 reason I chose this room for my own. I love them!
I have a growing collection of vintage typewriters (only my two favorites are on the shelves - meet Contessa, the orange one on the left, and Bell, the pink one on the right). The art above the new computer is by Janet Hill, who has so many great prints to choose from it took me roughly 100 years to decide on this one. I feel grounded by the people I love, so I have pictures of my grandparents and my mom as a little girl on my desk and another of my grandparents in their younger years alongside pictures of my wedding, my dad, and my kiddos on the shelves. My favorite mug holds tea with sugar and cream, an essential for me when writing.
On the opposite side of the room, I have a well-worn but cozy chair to curl up in while I read or review pages I've written. The vintage suitcase doubles as a little table for my tea or water. The picture above the chair is White One Sugar's illustration of Seasalter, the setting of Marin's little blue cottage in Love on Paper. The collage series on the right is the memento I bought myself while living in the Seasalter/Whitstable area the month I spent there researching the book. I got them at a high school art show, and I hate that I don't know the artist's name. They are so special to me!
