Last week, I traveled to Omaha to teach at the Nebraska Writers Guild conference. It was my first time teaching and why I decided to do not just one but TWO CLASSES I will never know. I was so nervous!
Growing up, I was debilitatingly shy. This has gotten much better as I've grown older, but actually getting in front of a crowd to speak is...whew: a challenge! To put it in perspective, at our wedding - a small event with less than 40 guests - I had to change into sneakers at the last minute. My legs were shaking so much I couldn't walk down the aisle in my heels. But just as I managed to get married 15 years ago, I managed to teach two classes and survive last week.
Well, I more than survived, thankfully. It actually went really well. I am so grateful for the support of my friends and fellow authors at the conference who encouraged me to do it. And look at this! My sweet books Love on Paper and Love on Film were featured in the conference bookstore. They sold out!
All in all, it was a great experience. I'm glad I accepted the challenge. Will I teach again? Oh, probably. But I need some time to recover first! :)
xo,
